Kozaburo Akasaka’s spring collection offered a refined take on classic streetwear, incorporating deconstructed denim and relaxed suiting that was a blend of his Eastern and Western roots.
“Basically the inspiration is an imaginary landscape and a utopia land,” Akasaka said. “It’s something representing the East and the West and telling the story of my upbringing in Japan and studying in London and then living now in New York and trying to express my future positive vision, which incorporates a recycled polyester and also traditional techniques.”
The spring collection utilized Akasaka’s streetwear sensibility and craft and furthered it with innovative denim looks and casual tailoring. The designer highlighted the denim as key pieces of the collection. The styles included denim jackets with broad shoulders and cutout sleeves as well as wide denim jeans embellished with a trim detail.
The designer also offered his take on suiting that blended classic streetwear with traditional tailoring. Standout looks included a gray oversize suit paired with a dress shirt designed with a scalloped detailing.
Overall the collection showed Akasaka’s ability to create cool menswear pieces that are a balance of classic-meets-streetwear.
