Leigh: Attempted murder charge after Worsley Mesnes gunshot

Scott Higgins, 35, from Leigh, had been wanted by police for several days after a gun was allegedly fired on Fisher Close in the Worsley Mesnes area of Wigan on Saturday, July 8.

Higgins was finally arrested after being found in the same area on Wednesday, July 19 and police have now announced that he has been charged with attempted murder.

Detective Inspector Lee Gridley of Wigan CID said: “This manhunt was undertaken by my team, who were relentless in their pursuit of Higgins.

“By using CCTV and public intelligence, they were able to locate and apprehend him.

“This is sure to be a huge relief to the communities in both Wigan and Leigh.”

As well as attempted murder, Higgins, of Kirkhall Lane, has also been charged with various other crimes including committing an act intended to pervert the course of justice, possession of a bladed article, possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and possessing a bladed article in a public place.

Detectives have now urged anyone with any more information about this case to come forward.

They can do so by calling Greater Manchester Police on 101, quoting log number 3918-080723.
