Lupita Nyong’o shared a heartfelt tribute to her Black Panther co-star Chadwick Boseman, on the third anniversary of his untimely death.
Boseman was just 43 years of age when he passed away on August 28, 2020 from complications from colon cancer.
While he was diagnosed in 2016, two years before his smash hit movie Black Panther, very few outside of his family knew about the diagnosis, and he never spoke about it publicly.
Nyong’o took to Instagram on Monday, sharing a throwback snap of Boseman from 2018, just after landing in Seoul, South Korea.
The tribute comes just two months after it was reported that Boseman will receive a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2024.

Throwback: Nyong’o took to Instagram on Monday, sharing a throwback snap of Boseman from 2018, just after landing in Seoul, South Korea.
‘Three years ago today, I experienced a singular pain at the news of @chadwickboseman’s death,’ Nyong’o, began.
‘The confusion was so profound that it took months to trust the feeling of joy again,’ the actress continued.
The black-and-white photo she shared featured Boseman doing a pose known as ‘baby hearts’ – where you cross your thumb and your index finger to create a tiny heart shape with the two fingers.
‘This is a photo I took on film at the airport as we arrived in South Korea in 2018. We had just learned to do the baby heart with our fingers,’ she explained.
‘Here Chadwick was adding his suave flare. We spent a glorious 72 hours there, and the memory fills me with so much joy,’ Nyong’o added.
‘Death is hard to understand, maybe even harder to accept. But the love generated from the life he lived will fuel every anniversary marking his absence,’ she continued.
‘Chadwick may no longer be in our photos, but he will always be in our hearts,’ Nyong’o concluded.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced in late June that Boseman will be receiving a star on the Walk of Fame at some point in 2024, though a date has not yet been announced.
He will be joined by other stars such as Michelle Yeoh, Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Christina Ricci, Ken Jeong, Kerry Washington, Gwen Stefani and Eugene Levy, Mario Lopez and Sheryl Lee Ralph.
‘The Selection Committee, which is made up of fellow Walk of Famers, carefully hand-picks a group of honorees each year that represent various genres of the entertainment world,’ said Chair and Walk of Fame, Ellen K, in a press release.
She continued: ‘The Committee did an amazing job choosing these very talented people. We can’t wait to see each honoree’s reaction as they realize that they are becoming a part of Hollywood’s history with the unveiling of their star on the world’s most famous walkway!’
