Manchester United are closing on a £4.25million deal for Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Byandir, pending the results of medical tests.
The 25-year-old travelled to Athens to meet United staff on Tuesday for checks on a back injury as the club wants guarantees over his fitness.
United have been discussing a move for the Turkey international with a £4.25million release clause for several weeks now as they look to provide competition for Andre Onana’s as the club’s No 1.
The 25-year-old made 40 appearances in all competitions as Jorge Jesus’ side finished second in the Super Lig, won the Turkish Cup and reached the Round of 16 in the Europa League before being knocked out by eventual winners Sevilla.
Dean Henderson, who is still not fully fit from his thigh injury, has been on the bench but is lined up to go to Crystal Palace once a replacement is secured.
Byandir is a cheaper option for United than Benfica’s Odysseas Vlachodimos while Fenerbahce have lined up Dominik Livakovic from Dinamo Zagreb.
United are ready to loan left-back Brandon Williams to Ipswich Town with an option to buy.
