Manthey’s aero improvements should dial the already insane 992 GT3 RS up to 11, and it’s likely to outpace the old GT2 RS MR around the Green Hell
Porsche’s GT models are some of the fastest cars around, and the 992 911 GT3 RS is the current king of the hill when it comes to track performance. Now, Manthey Racing, known for their history of racing and tuning Porsches, is here to make the car even faster, and our spy photographers were able to capture new images of the GT3 RS MR testing out on the Nurburgring.
This car was previously spotted lapping the Nurburgring a few weeks ago, but this time around it’s wearing the full aero kit. The 992 GT3 RS already has some of the most extreme aero in the industry, yet Manthey has managed to outdo Porsche’s efforts.

The most notable change is the new triple-element rear wing, which grows considerably in size and adds a large central sharkfin connecting it to the roof. Flanking this fin are a set of roof-mounted strakes, which likely serve to control the airflow around the wing. Up front, the car dons canards and a larger splitter, while the rear end features an enlarged diffuser with altered geometry. Elsewhere, we can see the rear wheel turbofans, a design detail that has now become synonymous with Manthey-upgraded 911s.
Aside from the aerodynamic changes, the car also likely sports upgrades to the suspension and braking systems. If the last GT3 RS MR is anything to go off of, those should include adjustable coilovers, braided brake lines, and higher-performance brake pads. The 991 GT3 RS MR also came with lightweight magnesium wheels, but those are a factory option on the stock 992 GT3 RS, so it’s unclear whether they will come from Manthey or Porsche.

All of these factory-backed upgrades allow Porsche to claim the MR as a production car, which in turn allows them to shoot for the production car Nurburgring record. As of right now, that crown belongs to the Mercedes-AMG One with a time of 6:30.705 (6:35.183 on the full 20.8 km / 12.9 mi lap), but before that, it was held by the 991 GT2 RS MR with a time of 6:38.835. That car’s time was a full 8.415 seconds faster than the stock GT2 RS, which is a piece of information that could bode well for Porsche.
The stock 992 GT3 RS was able to lap the Green Hell in a blistering 6:44.848, making it 2.402 seconds quicker than the stock GT2 RS. If we’re to assume that the Manthey parts are good for roughly 8 seconds, that would put it in the 6:36 range, making it quicker than the GT2 RS MR and the second quickest production car around the ‘Ring.
Assuming Porsche can produce a time like that in an actual lap attempt, will they be able to shave off an extra 6+ seconds to beat the AMG One? It’s very unlikely, but not out of the question. However, if the GT3 RS MR can’t do it, we know that Porsche is already at work on a 992 GT2 RS, which might be able to top the Mercedes even before Manthey’s upgrades, so we’re excited to see what’s in store.
