Margot Robbie’s “Barbie” press tour looks are a sight to behold, but given the lineup of costumes featured in the Greta Gerwig-directed movie, that should come as no surprise. While Robbie’s onscreen character is outfitted by Jacqueline Durran for the film, the 32-year-old Australian actress and producer works with stylist Andrew Mukamal for event dressing. Mukamal has been sharing behind-the-scenes snippets on Instagram of each look, and it’s a visual feast for any fan of the Barbiecore trend and the doll’s wardrobe in general.
Working alongside the rest of Robbie’s glam squad that includes hairstylist Bryce Scarlett, makeup artist Pati Dubroff, and manicurist Tom Bachik, Mukamal is making sartorial magic. Pulling from the current runways and archival designs, he’s created a wardrobe that feels like it’s pulled from Barbie’s own closet. At the LA press junket on June 25, Robbie embraced Barbie’s favorite print, arriving in a polka-dot, Valentino-pink minidress with an ab cutout at the center. Later, she piled on the doll-worthy accessories, adding a Barbie car, white retro sunglasses, stiletto mules, and Bottega Veneta’s pink Cabat bag to a bra-and-skirt set.
Robbie’s latest look is just as glamorous. For the “Barbie” European premiere on July 12, Robbie wowed in a Vivienne Westwood-created satin pink corset gown to channel Enchanted Evening Barbie, who came dressed with a white, furry stole (Robbie’s was crafted from ruffled tulle), opera-length gloves, and pearls. The star kept right on with the Barbie-foot heels trend, rocking a pair of PVC Christian Louboutin mules encrusted with crystals. Her blond hair was swept up into a relaxed updo, which is a more modern style in comparison to the nostalgic doll’s.
Later on in the evening, Robbie served us yet another winning ensemble – but it wasn’t as “Barbie” so much as it was a total showstopper. The actor swapped out her gown for a crimson strapless minidress and matching peep-toe heels. Robbie looked stunning in the custom satin look by Dilara Fındıkoğlu, which boasted a cinched-in waist and corset panelling. While the world is still obsessed with Barbiecore pink, this look might just be enough to bring back red.
Of course, this won’t be the last Barbie-inspired fashion moment we see from Robbie in the weeks to come, as she promotes the release of the highly anticipated film that lands in theaters on July 21. Keep scrolling for Margot Robbie’s best “Barbie” promo looks so far.
