Sarah Smith is the co-founder of Thrifthood. The small business aims to make shopping for second hand baby clothing simple by offering buyers boxes of bespoke, pre-loved, secondhand clothing at low prices.
Buyers can pick up a £19.99 Mini Box of three items of clothing or a Classic Box of 7 to 8 pieces for between £42.99 and £49.99, depending on age.
In the box will be secondhand items sourced by hand by Smith. The pieces will all compliment each other and can be used as a capsule wardrobe.
Buyers can request a specific look or colour palette – with themes such as “Wes Anderson” and “Princess Charlotte” requested to date.
To encourage the process, the firm also offer their Money Off Scheme, where buyers will get £10 off a Classic box by sending Thrifthood unwanted items that their child has outgrown.
Smith launched the firm last year after spotting a gap in the secondhand clothing market for young children. She quit her job earlier this year to focus on the business after the likes of Professor Green, Rutherford’s wife Susie Verrill and model Laura Coleman backed the brand.
She also pitched the business to Trinny Woodhall – who was a fan of the ethos and idea behind Thrifthood.

“We are committed to recycling the gorgeous kids clothes that already exist, so unlike the rental models no new clothing items have been produced for our boxes – all items are second hand.
“Since launching in November we have been able to fulfill every request from customers, which is unsurprising when it has been reported by the British Fashion Council that there are enough clothes on the planet currently to dress the next six generations.”
Reviews by customers have been coming in thick and fast, with one writing: “It is a fabulous idea to keep perfectly good clothes in rotation, being loved and used by a number of children.”
In the near future, Smith plans to launch her Thrifthood Play Bags which will include items perfect for weaning, nursery, messy and garden play.
