We already knew Mercedes-AMG was cooking up a high-performance EV in the form of a four-door coupe, but all we had to fuel our imagination was the sleek Vision AMG concept from 2022. Now, the wait is over as our spy photographers in Germany captured not one, but two prototypes of the electric AMG undergoing testing, albeit heavily cloaked in camouflage.
Each prototype was wrapped in different camouflage patterns covering their entire bodywork. The exterior design seems to draw significant inspiration from the captivating Vision AMG concept. The low-slung silhouette and aerodynamic roofline promise a sportier stance compared to the Mercedes EQS. This is further accentuated by the longer hood and pronounced rear shoulders, hinting at the car’s inherent performance aspirations.
The headlights and taillights seem to be provisional units, while the retractable rear spoiler at the back appears to be the real deal. Additionally, the prototype with lighter-colored camouflage reveals more about the bodywork, lacking the bulky plastic cladding on the bumpers and hood seen on the black example.

Beyond Aesthetics: A Powerhouse Under the Hood
While the final design details remain under wraps, the prototypes offer some clues about what lies beneath. This electric sports sedan is expected to be the first model to utilize the all-new AMG.EA architecture, specifically designed for high-performance, fully electric AMG models. The dedicated platform promises to deliver an elevated driving experience that prioritizes both power and agility.
According to earlier reports, the electric four-door model is expected to incorporate lightweight electric motors from the UK-based brand Yasa and a high-density, slimmer battery pack from US-based Sila Nanotechnologies. With a rumored output nearing 1,000 hp (746 kW / 1,014 PS), it will be significantly more powerful than its plug-in hybrid ICE cousin, the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door 63 S 4MATIC+ E Performance, which already boasts an impressive 832 hp (620 kW / 843 PS).

A Direct Challenge to Porsche’s Electric Supremacy
This electric AMG is undoubtedly Affalterbach’s answer to the Porsche Taycan, the current king of high-performance electric sedans, as recently evidenced by its Nurburgring lap record. Expected to reach showrooms in 2025, the electric AMG will serve as the fully electric counterpart to the existing Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door, which debuted back in 2018. Thanks to the recent 2024 facelift, the gasoline-powered GT 4-Door could potentially remain on sale alongside its electric sibling, offering consumers a choice between established performance and cutting-edge electric tech.
The final name for this electric powerhouse remains a question mark. Will Mercedes stick with a variation of the AMG GT 4-Door moniker, or will they opt for a more distinct and evocative name for this electric sports sedan? We should find out soon enough.
