PolitiFact Flags Fox on NEA Recommending ‘Gender Queer’ for Summer Reading List

The liberals at PolitiFact flagged Fox News as “False” on July 11 as it sought to defend the “banned” book Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe. Fox made an error, reporting the National Education Association promoted the graphically sexual book to kids, when they were promoting it as summer reading for teachers.

PolitiFact’s Sofia Bliss-Carrascoso (a student at Duke University) laid out the problem about the “Great Summer Reads!” page:

Gender Queer on NEA Summer Reading List for Kids,” read a Fox News chyron during a July 5 segment of “The Faulkner Focus.”

“The country’s largest teachers union (is) sending educators a recommended list of 11 books for students’ summer reading, and one of those books is actually titled Gender Queer,” host Julie Banderas said during the show, describing the book as being “about masturbation and oral sex.”

Fox News host Tomi Lahren said something similar in a July 6 OutKick article, describing the book as “soft porn” and asserting that the NEA “recommended teachers include the graphic gay sex novel ‘Gender Queer’ on their student’s summer reading lists.”

Fox noted correctly that the CRT-pushing NEA also insisted teachers should read White Fragility by Robin DiAngelo.

As you often see with liberal fact-checkers, they come rushing to the defense of liberal groups pushing sexual material on children. In this case, you can tell the NEA is promoting this book to teachers as an intellectual-ammunition kit against conservatives who would keep this book out of school libraries. PolitiFact noted the NEA “promotes traditionally liberal causes” and wants students to have access to graphic material:

The organization advocates against book bans, arguing that removing access to books puts “students and educators at a disadvantage.”

The liberals think school libraries should include depictions of Kobabe envisioning having her imaginary penis in mid-fellatio, as well as talk of masturbation and blow jobs.

Fox News has been checked by PolitiFact on five occasions — one “Half True” and four evaluations that were “Mostly False,” “False,” or “Pants On Fire.”

Tucker Carlson drew a remarkably hostile pile of checks — one “Mostly True,” one “Half True,” and 26 checks on the False side, including nine “Pants on Fire” ratings.

Laura Ingraham has one “Half True” and 12 checks on the False side (one “Pants on Fire”).

Greg Gutfeld has five checks, ALL on the False side. Jesse Watters has three, ALL on the False side.

Sean Hannity looks good by comparison, with seven on the True side, four “Half True,” and 20 on the False side (one “Pants on Fire”).

CNN has only one evaluation — a “Mostly False” in 2015 for the claim “ISIS lures women with kittens, Nutella.”

Anderson Cooper has NO checks — just like Alisyn Camerota, Laura Coates, Poppy Harlow, and Kaitlan Collins.

Erin Burnett has one False. Wolf Blitzer has two on the True side.

Jake Tapper has four checks on the True side and one “Mostly False.”
