Radcliffe Litter Pickers’ equipment destroyed in container fire

The fire took place at a storage container on Belmont Road, off Outwood Road, shared by Radcliffe Litter Pickers and gardening group Incredible Edible Radcliffe.

Bury Times understands that fire crews were called to the scene at around 5.45pm this evening.

The blaze was said to be so intense that it “melted everything inside”.

Gill Smith, a volunteer with Radcliffe Litter Pickers, said: “Lots of our things have been donated and passed on, we had strimmers and all sorts which have now completely gone.

“The container is okay but it looks as though the heat from a fire outside of it has gotten so intense that it has melted everything inside.

“Hopefully we can get a good response after this and rebuild everything that has now been lost.”

Radcliffe Litter Pickers are involved with other community projects beside litter picking and needed somewhere to store their tools, most of which, they say, were donated by locals.
