Rapinoe Embraces Inclusivity: Supports Transgender Inclusion in U.S. Women’s Soccer Team | Wayne Dupree

Megan Rapinoe, a star for the U.S. women’s soccer team, stated that she would accept a transgender woman onto the team even if it meant that a biological woman would be replaced.

Rapinoe made the remarks when asked to explain why she supports transgender athletes at a time when many states are passing legislation banning them from participating in certain sporting events during an interview with Time magazine.

She asserted that “as a nation, we are trying to legislate away people’s full humanity.”

Rapinoe previously gained attention for publishing an essay at the Washington Post in 2021 in support of transgender athletes. She is also well known for her outspoken opposition to conservative social policies and former President Donald Trump.

Rapinoe continues, “When women’s sports become weapons, it’s especially frustrating. “Oh, now that we care about justice? Women’s sports are now a concern for us? That is complete nonsense.

She additionally refuted the notion that transgender women enjoy unfair advantages in sports.

“Show me all the trans athletes who are abusing their status as trans by doing so. It simply isn’t happening,” she continued.

Rapinoe went so far as to deny the existence of the distinction when asked specifically if she would support a transgender woman on the U.S. women’s soccer team even if she replaced a biological woman.

Of course, she replied. “The part of the argument that is still very transphobic is, ‘You’re taking a’real’ woman’s place. Trans women are real women in my eyes. You’re already sort of revealing yourself when you say during the debate that you don’t think these people are women. They are therefore occupying the other space. I don’t think that.

Rapinoe recently revealed that she would stop playing soccer after the 2023 season.
