– Two goals in each half the difference
– Defeat at the John Smith’s Stadium

Huddersfield Town were defeated 0-4 by Norwich City at the John Smith’s Stadium this afternoon in the Sky Bet Championship.

Two first half goals and two second half goals were the difference for Norwich City against our Terriers this afternoon as we were defeated in our fourth league game of the season.

An early chance from the visitors kicked off the game this afternoon after a cross from Jonathan Rowe found the head of Josh Sargent in the middle of the box, the forward’s header was on target but went straight to Lee Nicholls’ gloves.

Town had a brilliant chance to take the lead in the fifth minute as Josh Koroma hit the post. After good work from Danny Ward out wide to create the space, Koroma drifted inside onto his right boot and curled toward the far corner. Angus Gunn was beaten, but the post was not, keeping the scores level.

A great cross was sent in by Sorba Thomas in the 10th minute, Matty Pearson couldn’t quite connect with his header to get the ball into the back of the net from by the far post.

Norwich’s first goal came from Sargent in the 11th minute; Nicholls came out of his area to clear the ball as Sargent was running onto it, however his clearance rebounded off the forward and into the back of the net. Sargent was then forced off the pitch due to an injury after his scramble in the box with Nicholls as he scored the goal – he was replaced by Adam Idah.

A penalty was then awarded to our visitors after Pearson was judged to have fouled Jonathan Rowe in the area, this was converted by Ashley Barnes and Norwich doubled their lead.

Brahima Diarra was almost clean through on the break after he reached the ball first going forward, after a great flick on by Danny Ward, but Shane Duffy brought him down and Town were awarded a free-kick. The youngster was brought down again a little while later by Duffy again, whilst he sprinted through the midfield, and the Norwich defender was shown the yellow card for this challenge.

A difficult chance fell to Ward inside the box as he spun to hit it on the half volley, but his effort went over the bar.

Gunn pulled off an incredible save to deny Josh Ruffels’ header in the final minutes of the first half, Tom Edwards had chipped the ball into the box for the header, but Gunn stretched the top corner and prevented the goal that looked as if it was going straight in.

The Canaries made it three at the start of the second half through Rowe as he ran onto a low cross and slotted the ball in by the near post from very close range.

As we tried to get a foot back in the game, Edwards had a shot from outside the box on the back of Sorba Thomas’ blocked attempt in the 56th minute, but this was saved in the bottom corner of the goal. This was followed by another save less than a minute later after Koroma’s shot from range was deflected and then saved.

Town were still looking for that goal with a lovely break following Michał Helik’s interception, which saw Koroma and Diarra exchange passes, with Koroma’s strike deflected behind for a corner.

Substitutes Pat Jones and Delano Burgzorg came on and tested the ‘keeper, with Jones forcing Gunn out of his goal and he saved the close-range shot.

Norwich scored their final goal in the 84th minute through Idah after he was crossed a low ball by Przemysław Płacheta.

Burgzorg had the last chance of the game for Town as he used his quick feet to make space for himself inside the box to shoot, but his effort went over, and Town were defeated 0-4 in the Sky Bet Championship.
