RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Oct 14, (Agencies): Saudi Arabia has made its mark in the Guinness World Records through a remarkable feat in agriculture. The Research Unit for Renewable Water Agriculture, located in the Asir region’s Wadi Bin Hashbal, has achieved recognition as the world’s largest farm in terms of land area.
This prestigious accolade was celebrated in a special ceremony organized by the Saudi Reef Program at its headquarters in Riyadh. The Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al Fadhli, proudly accepted the certificate of registration on this historic occasion.
Spanning an immense area of 3.2 million square meters, this remarkable farm is divided into two sections, each featuring a concrete tank with a capacity of 500 cubic meters. The farm represents the pinnacle of sustainable agriculture, with an automated irrigation network ensuring the well-being of all crops across the extensive fields. It is equipped with five air-conditioned greenhouses and several other essential structures.
The farm’s irrigation system is underpinned by a robust water treatment system, meticulously managed through multiple stages by a team of experts from various disciplines. This dedicated team oversees a total of 50 fields committed to fruit trees, as well as an additional 20 fields set aside for future reclamation and cultivation.
The farm’s impressive produce includes lemons, oranges, tangerines, pomegranates, grapes, figs, almonds, and olives. Furthermore, the farm serves as a hub for experimentation, fostering a wide array of agricultural varieties that showcase innovation and sustainability at the core of this agricultural marvel.
