The crime-action series will loosely adapt the first game of the series and will follow Kazuma Kiryu, played by Ryoma Takeuchi, and his friends from 1995 to 2005 as Kiryu finishes his prison sentence.
Taking place in modern-day Japan, the Amazon Prime original will follow the dramatic and intense stories of the characters that the game did not explore. The series will be available in 240 countries.
The Japanese game franchise, released in 2005, was originally titled ‘Yakuza’ but switched the name to ‘Like a Dragon’ to be closer to its Japanese title.
The latest game in the franchise, titled ‘Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth,’ was released in January and is available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. It sold more than 102,000 in Japan in its first three days of release.
