Congratulations are in order for Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian.
On Tuesday 22 August, the couple confirmed on social media that they had welcomed their second child, a daughter named Adira River. “I’m grateful to report our house is teaming [sic] with love: a happy & healthy newborn girl and a happy & healthy mama. Feeling grateful,” Ohanian wrote on Instagram. “@Serenawilliams you’ve now given me another incomparable gift – you’re the GMOAT. Thanks to all the amazing medical staff.”
Ohanian ended his post with a quote: “Your peace would have been like a river, your well-being like the waves of the sea.” Williams, meanwhile, shared a TikTok of their new family of four. Williams and Ohanian also share a five-year-old daughter, Olympia.

In 2018, the legendary athlete revealed to Vogue that she had experienced a pulmonary embolism after giving birth to Olympia – and, at first, was ignored when she raised concerns about her symptoms.
Four years later, she penned a poignant essay about her decision to step away from professional tennis so that she could focus on building her family and venture capital firm, Serena Ventures. “Believe me, I never wanted to have to choose between tennis and a family. I don’t think it’s fair. If I were a guy, I wouldn’t be writing this because I’d be out there playing and winning while my wife was doing the physical labor of expanding our family. Maybe I’d be more of a Tom Brady if I had that opportunity,” she wrote. “A few years ago I quietly started Serena Ventures, a venture capital firm. Soon after that, I started a family. I want to grow that family.”
And now, that dream has come true.
