DUBAI: Japan’s TeamLab Borderless Museum announced that it is scheduled to open in Jeddah this summer through the collaborative effort of the Saudi Ministry of Culture.
TeamLab Borderless is a collection of interactive artworks, designed by artists from all over the world, that form one single, borderless world. The museum, named “teamLab Borderless Jeddah,” will be the first permanent museum of its kind in the Middle East.
The Jeddah museum offers panoramic views of the UNESCO-listed Jeddah Historic District and will feature 80 artworks, including but not limited to “Borderless World,” “Athletics Forest,” “Future Park,” “Forest of Lamps,” and “EN TEA HOUSE.”
The museum also offers unique experiences, such as “Athletics Forest,” which challenges visitors physically in order to enhance brain development.
Speaking to Arab News Japan in 2020, TeamLab’s Communication Manager, Kudo Takashi, said that the plan is to create an art space that is positive and futuristic.
“What we create is not something we can explain through words. There is no boundary between the visitors and the artwork. If you are standing inside our space, some flowers will (start to) bloom around you, if you touch them, you will activate them,” he said.
The Japanese museum is a vital part of the Ministry’s efforts to enrich the Historic District and establish it as a cultural hub.
