The 7 Best Kroger Products, According to Store Associates

Sometimes I go to the grocery store with the sole purpose of perusing and actively searching for new releases and new-to-me products. This was something I did with my ammu (“mother” in Bengali) growing up—she referred to it as “our weekly walk”—and we would spend over an hour just meandering and pointing out the items on the shelves.

Ultimately, we’d choose a few to try and finally check out. Albeit time-consuming, this has introduced me to many great new products, so I continue the practice to this day.

If you’re not like me and would rather find those hidden gems without spending a great deal of time at the store, Kroger has done that work for you. In an anonymous internal survey, Kroger asked store associates (ranging from newly employed to long-term employees, some with over 20 years at Kroger) for their favorite Kroger brand (Private Selection) products.

Kroger associates narrowed the list to their seven favorite items they never leave the store without. I tried out some of these products, and I can confirm they are good buys and totally delicious.

1. Private Selection Argentinian Red Shrimp

These “succulent [and] buttery, lobster-like… Argentinean Red Shrimp elevate any dining experience,” an associate said in the survey. And I couldn’t agree more. These extra-large shrimp have the quintessential sweetness you’d expect from shrimp and an impressive size that will wow anyone at your dinner table. A true centerpiece protein!

2.  Private Selection Brown Butter Bourbon Truffle Ice Cream

I love Private Selection ice cream! The flavor combinations are unique and rarely disappoint, and this Brown Butter Bourbon Truffle Ice Cream lives up to the hype. With a creamy, toffee-like ice cream base, sea salt caramel ribbons, and mini bourbon truffles, it’s no wonder Kroger associates are enamored by this dessert.

3. Private Selection Petite Potatoes with Herbes de Provence Seasoning

Every family needs a go-to frozen side for busy weekdays, and these buttery microwavable potatoes are just that. Coated in fragrant Herbes de Provence seasoning and Parmesan cheese, these golden potatoes are ready in just six minutes, making them a reliable accompaniment to any weeknight dinner.

4. Private Selection Croissant Bread

This new product took Reddit by storm when first released, and the associates at Kroger agree it’s not to be missed. Flaky, buttery, and tender, Private Selection Croissant Bread has all the characteristics of a croissant, but now in loaf form.

Senior Editor Laurel Randolph says the bread “blew her mind,” and she loves toasting slices and topping them with marmalade. Kroger suggests using it to make a French toast breakfast or a late-night grilled cheese sandwich.

5. Simple Truth Banana Bread Baked Energy Bars

These Simple Truth Banana Bread Baked Energy Bars are a reliable start to any hectic morning. Made with oats, figs, and banana pieces and topped with a drizzle of chocolate, these bars both taste good and keep you energized. I keep these in my pantry and in my car for those on-the-go moments.

6. Private Selection Amaretto Cherry Cordial Ice Cream

Another Private Selection ice cream you don’t want to miss, especially for all the cherry lovers. This indulgent ice cream is creamy and smooth and teeming with maraschino cherry swirls and dark chocolate bits. The cherry and chocolate combo never fails, and now as a Private Selection ice cream, it’s guaranteed to be divine. Dare I say move over Cherry Garcia?

7. Kroger Mercado Chorizo

Whether served as breakfast sausage or made into chorizo tacos, Kroger Mercado Chorizo is a highly customizable protein option, perfect for the creative cook. Made with premium cuts of pork and just the right amount of spice, it’s guaranteed to level up your meal. At just $5.99 for a pound, it’s a good deal, too.
