The Macallan Whisky Bar & Lounge at Galaxy Macau marks Scottish distillery’s 200 years with bottle display, cocktails

Go to the Galaxy Macau right now and you can appreciate single malt Scotch whisky more than 85 years old – but only with your eyes.

The resort’s The Macallan Whisky Bar & Lounge is displaying bottles of the spirit from 1937, 1945, 1951, 1968, 1971, and 1988 as part of an exhibition that celebrates the 200th anniversary of the Scottish distillery.

Fans of a wee dram need not fret, though. Part of the “Time Travel: the Macallan 200 Years Young” celebration is a series of cocktails created to reflect different eras of the brand’s history.

Among them is Macallan King Potion, a blend of Macallan Double Cask 12 Years Old, which has citrus notes and a hint of honey and balances sweetness and complexity.

Old Fashion features Macallan Sherry Oak 18 Years Old, dark chocolate bitters, and a touch of cherry liqueur, in a rich, velvety drink.

The Rob Roy cocktail uses Macallan whisky as a base and blends it with vermouth to give the drink added teeth .

The Macallan brand was established in 1824 by Alexander Reid. The distillery is famous for using the smallest still in Speyside and for its sherry-seasoned oak casks, which impart flavour to its whisky varieties and give them a distinctive aroma.

The exhibition runs until June 9.
