Fresno might soon be home to the largest Costco in the world.
Pending a 45-day environmental review process where residents can comment on the proposed plan, the new, 241,342-square-foot warehouse would replace an existing Fresno warehouse and take the title of largest Costco warehouse from Salt Lake City, Utah, which stands at 235,000 square feet, according to Business Insider.
The new proposed warehouse would also feature a drive-thru car wash, 32 gas pumps, 889 parking spaces and more, according to Business Insider. However, the entire warehouse would not be accessible to shoppers: 47,000 square feet is reserved for e-commerce fulfillment as Costco tries to compete with Target, Walmart and other e-commerce competitors.
The 22.4-acre plot is in northwest Fresno at the intersection of Herndon Avenue and Riverside Drive. The current Fresno Costco, which was opened in 1985, is located less than 3 miles away at Blythe and Shaw avenues. The gas station at the current location would remain where it is, according to the Fresno Bee.
Residents can contact Fresno city planner Jose Valenzuela with comments or concerns about the proposed project until Aug. 25 as part of the 45-day review period. Valenzuela can be reached by mail at 2600 Fresno St., Room 3043, Fresno, CA 93721, or by email at [email protected].
