This $3.99 ALDI Find Is So Delicious—It Tastes Like a Restaurant’s

Almost every week, I grab a Mama Cozzi’s fresh pizza or flatbread from the deli section at ALDI. This past week I found something equally intriguing: Mama Cozzi’s Pizza Cookies.

I thought they were a new product, but my sister, Karen, informed me that it wasn’t new—the store has carried them for a while, including heart-shaped “pizza cookies” around Valentine’s Day. In any case, pizza cookies are new to my family, and they were a welcome surprise.

What’s So Great About Mama Cozzi’s Pizza Cookies

If you’ve ever been to a steakhouse or fancy restaurant that serves soft and oozing chocolate chip cookies in a skillet, then you’ll immediately know why my family fell in love with these pizza cookies.

When you open the box and unwrap the plastic, you’ll discover the ginormous Chewy Gooey Chocolate Chunk cookie in an aluminum cookie tin. Preheat your oven to 425°F (or 400°F if you have a convection oven like mine) and warm the cookie in it for three to four minutes.

It comes out of the oven, chewy and gooey as advertised. The cookie is soft and filled with lots and lots of large chocolate chunks, with a few smaller chocolate bits. Aromas of chocolate and vanilla will entice you until you have to dig in and it’s chocolate chip goodness all around. My 14-year-old son said it best, “These are amazing!”

The cookie’s center has a slight indentation, like a cookie pie, so that if you want to turn it into a pie or an ice cream sundae, it’s ready to rock. Cool the cookie after it bakes and top it with chocolate pudding and whipped cream, and you’ve got a cookie pie, or simply top it with scoops of vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, and whipped cream, and you’ve got a cookie sundae.

At nine ounces, the cookie is almost personal pan pizza size, and it sells for $3.99 each. There is no way my family of three or a single person (OK, a growing teenage boy) can eat the whole thing in one sitting. The box says there are eight servings per cookie. If you like chocolate chip cookies, it’s closer to six servings, but it’s still pretty hefty.

The first cookie I purchased was not exactly divided evenly— I maybe got one-sixth, my husband got a fourth, and our son devoured the rest. My husband and I were lucky we got to taste it.

After our first experience, I know better. Now I buy two cookies. One that gets divided between my husband and me, and then one cookie goes to our son. If my son were to have a group of his friends over, I would plan for at least four cookies. That’s OK for me because it’s affordable and delectable.
