Toyota may have made a name for itself building sensible, reliable family haulers that can last for up to a million miles, but the company is really full of big kids at its heart. Case in point, the Japanese automaker has partnered with Pokémon to create a real life Miraidon motorbike from Pokémon Violet.
For anyone not in the know, the Miraidon is a legendary Pokémon that’s kind of like a robotic lizard. Specifically, it’s a dual electric/dragon type, but all you really need to know is that it can transform into an awesome motorbike whenever it likes. And now, Toyota is making a real version of said motorbike.
First brought to our attention by the folks at IGN, the Toyota Miraidon bike was teased on Twitter X. As the site reports:
Toyota announced the project on X/Twitter, above, with a simple piece of concept art for the creation. The company didn’t say when or how it would reveal the bike fully, though it will presumably only be shown off as a display model and won’t be made available for sale.
Somewhat of a prototype was debuted in November 2023 at a Japanese event, but its technology didn’t go far beyond glowing electronic eyes, compared to the proper version’s full usability.
The prototype IGN refers to there was a static model that Toyota showed off last year. It looked very close to the Pokémon in the game, but nobody ever saw it move under its own power. Now, it sounds like Toyota is hoping to do better than that with this new build.
Details of what to expect from the creation are, as you might predict, slim on the ground. So we’ll have to just keep our eyes out for any awesomeness coming out of Toyota in the coming months.
However, as the bike in the game is capable of transforming between its dragon form and bike form with ease, we’re sure hoping that Toyota’s version can manage the same. So please, Toyota, show us what you’ve got.
