Trump confident in blowout going into South Carolina primary

ROCK HILL, S.C. (NewsNation) — Former President Donald Trump is breezing through the Palmetto State as he readies to solidify his status as the presumptive GOP nominee for the third time since 2016.

Trump is up more than 30 points over former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, according to a DecisionDesk HQ average of current polling.

Supporters will get a sense of that MAGA-momentum Friday at a rally in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

The Trump campaign is narrowing its focus on voters in South Carolina who may be frustrated with the current occupant of the Oval Office.

Democrats held their primary in South Carolina 20 days ago and turnout was down significantly. About 126,000 people turned out to the polls compared to 500,000 in 2020.

NewsNation has learned Trump is bringing Sen. Tim Scott, the lone Black Republican in the chamber, on stage with him for Friday’s rally.

All signs point to Trump looking to the general election and trying to chip away at President Joe Biden’s Black voter support in the state that solidified his 2020 nomination.

“This will be a record, game-changing turnout for Black Americans supporting President Trump,” said Trump advisor Bruce Levell. “It’ll be above 25%. It’ll be one of the highest turnouts in the nation’s history the way the momentum is going.”
