(NewsNation) — Stormy Daniels was more relieved than happy when she learned of former President Donald Trump’s conviction in his hush money trial, according to her attorney.
“She was really kinda taken aback. She got emotional to me,” attorney Clark Brewster told NewsNation’s “Elizabeth Vargas Reports.” “The finality of it really hit her hard.”
He said Daniels didn’t express any “true happiness” at the verdict.
“It was more or less a relief that it’s over,” Brewster said.
Brewster, who was in the courtroom when Daniels testified, praised his client for her testimony.
“I thought she did a great job dealing with the (cross-examination) and being able to respond directly … and withstand a fairly withering cross,” he said.
Brewster also praised the prosecutors and the jury members.
“You couldn’t have a more diligent, responsible, good officers of the court than the prosecutors I dealt with,” he said. “The idea that this was some kind of fix, or some kind of dishonest prosecution, is offensive.”
When it comes to what sentence Trump will receive July 11, Brewster said it may come down to allocution, where Trump can address the judge before he passes sentence.
“I predict the judge will have two sentences before he announces it: one with contrition and acceptance of responsibility, and one without,” said Brewster.
