Football Worldcup 2022 – USA Men’s National Team is a DO OR DIE Situation in Worldcup.
Today’s US Men’s National Team match is a DO OR DIE situation. USA Team playing Iran for the first time in 24 years, but the tension has been building for days and finally spilling out into the open. Today’s politically charged match between the US and Iran grew even more contentious at the pre-game news conference. Whatever your number Iranian state TV turned to Tyler Adams, the captain of Team USA.
The Iranian reporter then asked Adams about the discrimination against black people in the US.
Iranian Reporter: Are you okay to be representing the US meanwhile, there’s so much discrimination against black people in America.
Tyler Adams: My apologies for the mispronunciation of your country. You know, there’s discrimination everywhere you go. You know, one thing that I’ve learned, especially from living abroad in the past years and having to fit in in different cultures and kind of simulating to different cultures is that in the US, we’re continuing to make progress every single day. It’s a process I think, as long as you see progress. That’s the most important thing.
Anti-government protests have been spreading for weeks. The unrest stemming from the death of a woman for not wearing her headscarf properly, has built into the World Cup stage. With spectators booing Iran’s national anthem. One protester even ran onto the field wearing a respect for woman shirt. Meanwhile, Iranian state media has called for the US team to be kicked out of the tournament after the US Soccer Federation removed the Islamic Republic emblem from Iran flag in this social media post a move to show support for protesters in Iran.
The Biden administration is staying out of the dispute and USA soccer is a private entity that make its own decisions about those kinds of things.
So today’s match is a must-win for the USA even a tie will result in Team USA’s elimination from the tournament.
