- The Swedish carmaker delayed the launch of the EX90 because of software issues last year.
- U.S. pricing for the EX90 starts at $76,696 in the entry-level Twin Motor guise.
- Topping out the range is a Twin Motor Performance model with 496 hp and 671 lb-ft (909 Nm).
It’s been more than 18 months since the all-electric Volvo EX90 was unveiled and after a lengthy delay, production of the luxurious seven-seat SUV has finally started at the firm’s factory in Charleston, South Carolina.
The Swedish company originally intended to start production of the EX90 in late 2023 but pushed that date back until 2024 due to software bugs with it and the Polestar 3. With those issues now sorted, production has kicked off, and the first customer deliveries have been penciled in for the second half of this year.

The very first EX90 built is painted Denim Blue and will be delivered in the U.S. this year. Volvo’s Charleston factory also builds the S60 sedan and has the capacity to build up to 150,000 cars per year. To get it ready for EX90 production, Volvo added a battery pack production line.
“The fully electric Volvo EX90 is the start of a new era for Volvo Cars – a new era for safety, sustainability and human-centric technology,” Volvo chief executive Jim Rowan said. “The EX90 is proudly manufactured in the USA and reflects our long-term commitment to our people in South Carolina and the broader US market.”
U.S. pricing for the EX90 starts at $76,695. The range starts with the entry-level EX90 Twin Motor that’s available in Plus 7 Seat, Plus 6 Seat, Ultra 7 Seat, and Ultra 6 Seat guises. Power comes from a pair of electric motors with 402 hp and 568 lb-ft (769 Nm) fed by a massive 111 kWh battery pack. Twin Motor versions can reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in 5.7 seconds and travel up to 300 miles (483 km) on a charge.
Sitting above the standard Twin Motor in the EX90 range is the Twin Motor Performance. This version has the same 111 kWh battery but the electric motors have been upgraded to deliver 496 hp and 671 lb-ft (909 Nm), cutting the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time to 4.7 seconds. It too has a range of around 300 miles (483 km). Prices for the Twin Motor Performance start at $81,695 and top out at $86,545.
