With numerous TikTok creators going viral as they post these ‘eggsplosive’ videos, doctors have warned that the hot steam shooting out of the eggs injure you – and out your sight at risk.

Dr Grace Wang, an ophthalmologist at the University of Michigan, said, pleaded with people not to try the popular trend, as it isn’t ‘worth it’.

“You can get a lot of painful injuries that could alter your face, your appearance and your vision.

“The hot steam and the hot egg along with the force of the explosion can really hit you in the face and cause burns, and not just to your skin. It can burn your eyes and cause injuries,” she told Mail Online.

And the damage to your peepers might not be temporary – scarring could cause long-term issues with your sight and the ability of your cells to repair tissue in the front of your eyes could be harmed, according to Dr Wang.

And pharmacist Thorrun Govind told the paper that burns and damage on your eyes can’t easily be repaired.

“I think it is extremely concerning that people are considering doing this.

“This could cause really serious harm, which ultimately you may even need surgery for,” she added.

While the experts warnings might seem dramatic to some, just a cursory scroll through TikTok will show you why they have more than enough merit.

TikTok user Abbie Sloan has more than 300,000 views on her video showing a woman jumping back in shock as her boiled egg exploded with a plume of steam across the plate.

The woman instructed viewers to ‘take it out of the bowl’ of water and ‘cut the egg in the middle’ before it burst

However, Abbie’s views seem modest in comparison to other videos circulating the platform – one with 7.5 million posted by duo @H.G.bros sees them tentatively poke a boiled egg with a knife before it bursts dramatically across their kitchen.

In another video, Jess of @samandjessofficial pranks her husband Sam into cutting open a boiled egg she had microwaved – the explodes in tiny pieces that are sprayed everywhere.

One clip that’s garnered a whooping 51.8 million views shows a young girl biting into a microwave-boiled egg, only to have the hot yolk explode into the back of her throat.

The video is captioned: “Don’t boil your eggs in the microwave.”

It comes after Shafia Bashir suffered horrific burns across her face that left her skin peeling off after boiling her egg in the microwave.

She cut into the scalding yolk with a cold spoon, only to have it erupt across the right side of her face like a fountain.
