Being brave enough to admit there’s a hated car out there you like and defend takes guts, especially now in the age of the internet. Declaring these thoughts online to social media can get you lit up with all kinds of comments. But this is the beauty of being a car enthusiast, being able to appreciate everything on four wheels, even when someone else doesn’t like it.

Take the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo. It was… odd-looking. And for all intents and purposes it was a dumb model. It was created during a time when BMW was creating new segments to sell cars in. Its GT models — there was also a 3 Series GT — weren’t wagons, but they weren’t quite crossovers either. But BMW wanted buyers who would traditionally go for a wagon to go for a GT. And when they didn’t, BMW execs were disappointed.

But I can’t quite put my finger on why I’ve always had a strange attraction to the 5 Series GT. It could have been because it had 7 Series rivaling amounts of rear leg room. Or maybe it was the fact that you could get one with a twin-turbo 445 horsepower V8 in one and have enough power and room for people and their cargo. Whatever it was, I have and likely always will die on the hill that the 5 Series GT was a great and unique car.

Now we ask you, dear reader. What bad car hill will you always die on? As I said, this is a safe space. There’s never a wrong answer. And you never know, you just might end up naming or suggesting something another person likes.
