he UK rate of inflation has fallen to 7.9 per cent and financial markets have forecasted that the Bank of England will no longer raise interest rates to above 6 per cent early next year because of a sharp fall in petrol prices.

Inflation had been 8.7 per cent in May and the rate for June was forecast to be 8.2 per cent before the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics were published.
