What We Know So Far

Overview

Mini’s most recognizable products—the Cooper hatchback and convertible—are receiving a handsome new look for 2025, as part of a tip-to-tail makeover that will see a modernization of the car’s design and features. We’ve seen production photos of the Cooper Electric, and we we’re expecting gasoline-powered variants that look similar, including a racier S trim as is tradition. Powertrains shouldn’t be much different from the previous-generation models, meaning entry-level Coopers should get a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder, and the Cooper S will likely carry a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. We’re hoping that a six-speed manual will be in the mix too, but an eight-speed automatic is likely to be found in most of the cars sold in the U.S.

What’s New for 2025?

The 2025 Cooper should debut before the end of 2023 and go on sale in early 2024 as a 2025-model-year vehicle. When we find out more about this new third generation of the spunky compact car, we’ll update this story with details.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

Cooper Hardtop

$27,000 (est)

Cooper S Hardtop

$31,000 (est)

Cooper Convertible

$37,000 (est)

Cooper S Convertible

$40,000 (est)

Although the Mini Cooper will be essentially all-new for 2025, its pricing is expected to adhere closely to the current model’s. While we’ve only seen images and spy photos of the three-door hatchback so far, we’re expecting five-door hatchback and convertible body styles to remain a part of the lineup.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

Mini has taken a simplistic approach with the new Cooper’s interior. It started by analyzing the original Mini from 1959 and settled on a pared-back design inspired by that car. But it’s far less basic than the vintage model, and features nice materials, a textile-covered dashboard, clever hidden LED lighting elements, and a more refined control panel with toggle switches. We had the chance to sit inside during a Mini preview event and were impressed with the build quality. We also noted that although the new car is roughly the same size as the outgoing model, the interior felt more spacious and open.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The Cooper’s party piece is a unique circular digital infotainment display that appears to float in front of the dashboard. A head-up display is also available and pops up from the dash in front of the driver. Mini has been tight-lipped about most of the new Cooper’s features and options; we’ll update this story when we find out more info.

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Mini offers a slightly better warranty than other small-car manufacturers, particularly with complimentary scheduled maintenance. Volvo and BMW both offer complimentary scheduled maintenance plans that match Mini’s policy.

  • Limited warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles
  • Powertrain warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles
  • Complimentary scheduled maintenance is covered for 3 years or 36,000 miles

As more information becomes available, we’ll update this story with more details about:

  • Engine, Transmission, and Performance
  • Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
  • Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
