White Castle's transformation from fast-food to fine dining on Valentine's Day

ST. LOUIS – White Castle has transformed into “Love Castle” for Valentine’s Day by providing a fine dining experience for customers.

“Tonight, we are the Love Castle. We transform our dining room into an amazing sit-down service,” Marjorie Derolf, White Castle district supervisor, said. “As you can see, we are pretty jam-packed here with some phenomenal customers.”

As soon as a customer walks in the door, a hostess escorts them to a table after they have checked in for a reservation. Not only is the event for couples, but a church group also decided to have their Valentine’s Day meal at the establishment.

“It’s just fun. When you tell somebody, ‘I have reservations for Valentine’s Day,’ (and they say), ‘Oh, where are you going?’ (and you say), ‘White Castle.’ They always think that’s the funniest thing in the world, and I don’t know why,” Donna Moore, a customer, said.

For 33 years, tens of thousands of couples, friends and families have come out to White Castle every year to enjoy Valentine’s Day. Some made it a tradition and brought something of their own.

“Well, what we do is bring our own desserts. So, we bring our whip cream; we bring our cakes,” Maria Bolden, a customer, said.

The “Love Clutch Collection” shareable meal includes 10 cheesy sliders, 20 chicken rings and a sack of fries.

Some customers made their reservations months in advance.

“(We made reservations) probably in January because they always sell out. I wanted to make sure we could get reservations,” Laura Hitz, a customer, said. “We tried in our town, and they were sold out, so we were able to get a reservation here in St. Charles.”

Besides a fine dining experience, customers are also able to purchase merchandise such as robes, t-shirts or heart-shaped sunglasses.
