Unlike a certain mismanaged social network that wants you to pay for the privilege of fixing your typos, Instagram’s Threads app now allows you to edit your posts for free. Along with the ability to post voice messages, it’s yet more evidence that Threads is catching up with or getting ahead of X, formerly known as Twitter. Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, which owns both Instagram and Threads, recently announced both of these features are being rolled out to everyone. Here’s how they work.

How to edit your posts on Threads

When you’re done posting something on Threads, go to the post and tap the three dots icon in the top-right corner. This will reveal a popover menu, with the new Edit option. Once you’re done editing your text, tap the Post button to save your changes. You can edit a post on Threads up to five minutes after publishing.

If you don’t see this option yet, try updating the Threads app. If it still doesn’t show up, you may have to wait a bit longer.

How to post voice notes on Threads

You can now also post voice messages on Threads. To do so, tap the new Post button (the one in between the magnifying glass and heart icons near the base of the display). You’ll see a microphone icon below the text box. Tap this button, give Threads access to your microphone, and start speaking. If Threads understands you, it’ll offer a transcription that you can append to your post. If it can’t understand your accent or language, it won’t transcribe your voice message. You can still post the voice note to Threads without a transcription.

At the moment, there aren’t any easy ways to save others’ voice messages on Threads, but you can easily download photos and videos from Threads on iPhone as well as on your Android.
