Branham High students take 2nd in viral video contest

Viral video winners

Branham High School students Allison Crick and Leslie Franco teamed with Maria Esquivel Flores, a student at Mount Pleasant High School, to produce a winning entry for a viral video contest held by the Santa Clara County Department of Public Health. The three teens are students in the Silicon Valley Career Technical Education center’s Film and Video Production program.

The contest was held in recognition of Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) Awareness Week in April and presented by the county’s Sexual Health and Harm Reduction Program. High-school-age students living or attending school in Santa Clara County produced and submitted 30- to 90-second videos encouraging safer sexual behavior and addressing STI stigma. Students uploaded their videos to YouTube and shared them on social media with #GoViralSCC.

The trio’s video, “Wrap it Up,” is inspired by ’90s rap videos and shares knowledge about protecting yourself from STIs with condoms and the importance of regular testing. It took second place among submissions from 104 students from seven high schools. The three top production teams won $1,500, $1,000 and $500, respectively, plus $500 for their school.
