Charles Barkley Apologizes to Beyonce’s Mom for Galveston

Charles Barkley has become public enemy no. 1 in yet another city in Texas after dissing Galveston on multiple occasions on Inside the NBA.

It all started Saturday when Barkley expressed his disappointment with the New Orleans Pelicans for being down 3-0 to the Oklahoma City Thunder in their first round playoff series. Barkley was so disappointed, in fact, that he joked the Pelicans didn’t deserve to go to Cancun in the off-season. Instead, he claimed they should go to Galveston.

“We’re not even gonna send them to Cancun,” Barkley said. “We’re gonna send them to Galveston, where that dirty-ass water be washing up on the shore and you people think they’re in the beach.”

When Inside the NBA began Sunday, the crew revisited Barkley’s comments. Ernie Johnson revealed that Tina Knowles, the mother of star musician Beyonce, heard the bit and called Barkley out. Knowles was born in Galveston.

Fearing the wrath of Beyonce’s fanbase — known as the BeyHive — Barkley made it known he wanted no problems with the Knowles family.

“Miss Knowles, I don’t want that smoke,” Barkley said. “I don’t want the BeyHive and [Jay-Z] after Chuck. Miss Knowles, I apologize.”

Johnson then put his apology to the test and asked Barkley how he now felt about Galveston. Barkley, however, stood firm on his stance.

“We’re not going there,” Barkley responded.

When Kenny Smith asked Barkley if he’d vacation in Galveston, Barkley decided to bring up his favorite target in the state of Texas — San Antonio.

“Oh, hell no I ain’t going on vacation,” Barkley continued. “Let me tell you something: that water’s so dirty, I’d rather go to San Antonio. I’d rather go to San Antonio with them big ol’ women.”
