Charles Barkley Calls NYC “Overrated,” Praises “Street Meat”

Charles Barkley is hoping for a New York Knicks meltdown in the next round of the NBA playoffs because, in his opinion, the city is overrated.

Despite suffering multiple significant injuries, the Knicks beat the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. In the NBA media, it is widely believe that the Knicks will advance to the conference finals — where the team will likely face off against the top-seeded Boston Celtics.

“You know, if the Knicks win, that’ll be good,” Barkley said on Inside the NBA. “I don’t care who wins, but I’ll tell you what — I would love to see them get their ass stomped by the Celtics. That’d be great.”

Barkley maintained that he didn’t care who won, but his colleagues called him out for seemingly contradicting himself by rooting for the Celtics.

“Yeah, because the New Yorkers, y’all deserve it,” Barkley continued, “because y’all think y’all [are] the greatest thing since sliced bread. Come on, y’all ain’t that good in New York! Y’all overrated. Just because y’all make good pizza and good bagels?”

Barkley did concede that there was one thing he appreciated about New York City: the street food.

“I ain’t gonna say nothing bad about the street meat,” Barkley said as his colleagues burst into laughter. “I love the street meat. I don’t care what kind of meat it is, either. It tastes good. Rat, dog, cat, skunk, raccoon — it tastes good. Just put that white sauce on it.”
