Daisy Hill boss aiming to end side’s poor run of results

A recent run of narrow defeats has been a blow to a squad that put together a good sequence of results in September, and Daisy manager Lee Hill is under no illusions about the challenge facing his side this weekend, against an Ashton side who won 5-0 at New Sirs in the last game between the sides in early September.

“We know it’s a tough game and we have had a tough month, and results haven’t gone our way for various reasons,” said Hill.

“But we won’t look to approach this game any differently to when we played Ashton Town in September.

“An early goal and then a penalty soon afterwards meant that game had gone quite early, so while it was a bad day at the office, I like to think that if we hadn’t conceded two poor goals so early, we would have stayed in the game longer and it might have been a slightly different outcome.

“We spoke at training in midweek about how we want to play going forward, and about some tweaks we are making.

“But the lads have to dig themselves out of this little rut, and while morale has taken a slight dip, they are confident in their ability and with the plan that we are putting together.

“Last week at Euxton Villa the game was never beyond us, and for long spells neither team really looked like scoring, it was an even game.

“It wasn’t a performance from us that warrants a lot of changes, and we are trying to put a bit of consistency together in team selection, so we will go again with the same squad on Saturday and see where it takes us”.
