First edition of ‘Japan Film Days in Fujairah’ – a beginning of future cultural collaboration|Arab News Japan

The first edition of “Japan Film Days in Fujairah,” started on Saturday, Feb. 24 with a special opening ceremony at the theater of Fujairah’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The event was organized by the Consulate General of Japan in Dubai and the Fujairah Culture and Media Authority in collaboration with Fujairah Social and Cultural Association and the Fujairah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The opening ceremony started with a speech from Imanishi Jun, Consul General of Japan in Dubai and Northern Emirates, where he expressed his appreciation and gratitude for this wonderful event as part of the strong diplomatic and cultural relations between Japan and the UAE.

The event was attended by Nasser Mohammed Al Yamahi, Executive Director of the Fujairah Culture and Media Authority and Khaled Al Dhanhani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Fujairah Social and Cultural Association.

The opening ceremony was followed by a Koto (Japanese harp) performance by a professional Japanese Koto player and the screening of Japanese film “Where I belong” that features a story of Izumi, an urchin who was set adrift by his parents.

The second movie which featured on Sunday, Feb. 25 was “The House of the Lost on the Cape” where a strange old woman allows a teenage runaway and a young orphan to stay in an abandoned house that overlooks the sea. However, when a menacing entity threatens their new home, they must band together and face their fears to save it.

A representative of the Consulate General of Japan in Dubai said: “We are happy for ‘Japan Film Days in Fujairah’ as it’s our first time to arrange it in Fujairah and we hope that it will be the beginning of future cultural collaboration in Fujairah city.”
