Retired NBA player Glen “Big Baby” Davis was sentenced to 40 months in prison by a federal judge for his role in a scheme to defraud league benefits.

According to a report from ESPN, Davis was one of multiple former players involved in the scheme, including Terrence Williams, who played last played in the NBA in 2013 for the Boston Celtics, and Keyon Dooling, who last played for the Memphis Grizzlies in 2013 were also sentenced. In total, more than 20 people were sentenced for filing false medical claims with the NBA Players’ Health and Benefit Welfare Plan.

In a statement, the Southern District of New York said the scheme netted the defendants more than $5 million in profits.

“Today’s conviction exemplifies that despite notoriety or success in sports or any other field,” the statement read, “no one is exempt from criminal charges if they engage in fraud.”

It’s not the first time Davis has found himself in legal trouble since retiring from the NBA. In 2018, it was reported that Davis had been arrested on drug charges.

In response, Davis posted a video of himself on social media to refute those reports. The video featured him on a private jet eating chicken from Popeye’s. Behind him was a pile of cash. Davis then said, “Don’t believe all that shit on the internet.”
