KitchenAid Just Announced Its Newest Product—I Can’t Wait To Get One

Only second to reminding my kids to use their inside voices, there’s one thing I do every day more than anything else: boil water. Filling my French press at 6 a.m.? Boil water. For my umpteenth cup of tea? Let’s do it. Making oatmeal? Get that water on again. The house smells funky? Boil water with sliced lemons. I cannot make it through the day without putting my kettle on.

There used to be a point earlier in my adult life when I thought, why do I need a tea kettle when I have pots of every size that can easily boil water? I used to put tea kettles in the single-utility kitchen tools category, like egg slicers, pie cutters, and crinkle knives. I didn’t think I needed one.

As with all great loves, one made it into my life in the form of a gift from a friend and the rest is history—it’s one of my most-used kitchen items. What I’ve learned is that you need a tea kettle that can boil water quickly, is easy to clean and refill, won’t scald you, alerts you when it’s ready, and looks nice so that you can keep it out.

If you’re in the market for one, KitchenAid, the brand behind the best editor-endorsed stand mixers, just announced its newest tea kettle: KitchenAid 2-Quart Enamel on Steel Tea Kettle. The good news? It has all the qualities of a worthy tea kettle.

KitchenAid’s New Tea Kettle

KitchenAid’s new tea kettle has chuckwagon vibes with a modern twist—I would happily let it live on my stovetop.

The body is made of rust-resistant enamel on steel, which means it’s easy to clean. Just note that even the strongest enameled surfaces can be chipped, so take care by preventing hard blows to the surface and avoid rubbing it with metal tools, steel wool, and harsh abrasives. To wash, simply wipe it down with a soapy sponge and water. Never put it in the dishwasher.

This is a sturdy kettle that weighs about 4 1/2 pounds—it will heat quickly and retain the heat for longer. A whistle on the lid signals when the water is boiling and the spout flips open on its own when you pour. KitchenAid warns that the handle does get hot, so use a mitt to grab it and make sure that the lid is on tightly before using it to avoid getting burned.

The kettle is compatible with all stove tops, including gas, electric, and induction. You can find it in an array of charming colors like blue velvet (as seen in the image above), empire red, matte black (coming later in April), and porcelain white (available in May).
