Lostock members brave the elements on fells and trails

The event started and finished in Burrs Country Park, with more than 100 hikers and runners, hikers setting off at 7am and runners at 8am, covering a distance of 27.25 miles and an elevation gain of 2,000 feet.

Atherton-McKenna ran the challenge and was the first Lostock member to arrive at the finish line, she was followed by Stevens who ran/walked the route. Rachel and Stephen Hancock also walked the route to take advantage of the scenery.

Anthony Maxwell, Sheila Garewal and Mark Checkley took part in the Pennington Flash Trail race – a five-miles event around the country trails and tracks of Pennington Flash Country Park.

Maxwell was the first Lostocker across the finish line in 41mins 44secs, achieving second in his age category. Garewal was next in 50:34, third in her age category, and Checkley finished in 50:37.

Tommy Smith and Mark Shuttleworth completed the Harrock Hill fell Race over 5.3 miles on the tracks and fields of Parbold and Harrock Hills.

Both started near the front to get a good start. Smith was the first Lostock member to cross the finish line in 20th position in 40:01, while Shuttleworth completed the race in an impressive 47.52.

Amanda Smith completed the Grand Tour of Skiddaw on Sunday – a tough ultra race, covering 46 miles and an elevation gain of 7,400 feet. The route traverses the beautiful Northern Lake District with a climb up the mighty Skiddaw at the approximate halfway point.

This is a challenging race and not everyone who started the race was able to finish, but Smith completed the race in an impressive 13:40:00.

Lostockers were on tour when completing parkruns this week. Janet Rhodes (27:22) completed the Eden Project Parkrun, Ian Burns (28:00) finished at Whitehaven Parkrun and closest to home was Mark Checkley (30:09) at Wythenshawe Parkrun.
