Mike Tyson-Jake Paul Fight Sanctioned as Official Match

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson confirmed Monday that his upcoming fight against Jake Paul has been sanctioned as a professional match by a Texas commission.

The fight, scheduled for July 20, was announced in March. Though the men are separated in age by 31 years, there’s been no shortage or trash talk between the two.

Considering that age gap, however, many assumed the fight would be nothing more than an exhibition. After all, Tyson hasn’t fought professionally since 2005. Despite this, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations has given it the green light, meaning the outcome of the bout will be reflected on their respective records.

“Yes it’s a real sanctioned fight with @jakepaul,” Tyson tweeted.

The fight will be held in AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas — home of the Dallas Cowboys. It will be the first major sports event streamed live on Netflix.

“Mike Tyson and Jake Paul signed on to fight each other with the desire to do so in a sanctioned professional fight that would have a definitive outcome,” Most Valuable Promotions co-founder Nakisa Bidarian told ESPN. “Over the past six weeks, MVP has worked with its partners to satisfy the requirements of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR) to sanction Paul vs. Tyson, and we are grateful that we have gotten to this point.”

While many professional main events consist of 12, three-minute rounds, this will have just eight, two-minute rounds. The men will use 14-ounce gloves.
