Nokia 6.1 Plus India launch event has finally started, ending the wait of fans for the first Nokia phone with a notch. The company started the event with the claim that it is back in the top 10 smartphone brands globally within less than 2 years of re-entering the smartphone industry. The company will launch not just the Nokia 6.1 Plus at the event, but also another smartphone – the Nokia 5.1 Plus, which also features a notch design. Of course, the former is the global name of the Nokia X6, while the latter is the rebranded Nokia X5. HMD Global is also overhauling the camera experience on Nokia 6.1, Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8.1 Sirocco with a cleaner UI and Google Motion and Lens integration. Nokia 7 Plus will also be getting the Android Pie update in early September, with other models following soon. The Nokia 6.1 Plus price in India remains a mystery that will be unravelled by the company’s top brass at the event, which is scheduled to start at 12:10pm.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus has a 5.8-inch full-HD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio and 96 percent colour gamut, and will be powered by Snapdragon 636. On the other hand, the Nokia 5.1 Plus sports a display with 19:9 aspect ratio and runs on the MediTek Helio P60 chip with a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for AI tasks. The former has a 16-megapixel front camera and 16-megapixel + 5-megapixel dual rear cameras, while the latter has an 8-megapixel front camera and 13-megapixel + 5-megapixel dual cameras on the back. The two models have the bothie feature and AI-assisted portrait lighting, and will be part of the Android One programme. Both the smartphones will be available only via Flipkart and Nokia.com.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus price in India is Rs. 15,999, and the smartphone goes on pre-orders in a few minutes via both Flipkart and Nokia.com. As for launch offers, it will come with data offers from Airtel. Nokia 5.1 Plus price in India will be revealed when the smartphone hits the market in September.

The specifications of the Nokia 6.1 Plus are the same as that of the Nokia X6. The dual-SIM (Nano) smartphone runs on pure Android 8.1 Oreo. It sports a 5.8-inch full-HD+ (1080×2280 pixels) display with 2.5D Gorilla Glass 3 for protection, and a display notch, therefore, a 19:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 636 SoC, coupled with 4GB RAM. The Nokia 6.1 Plus is fuelled by a 3060mAh battery that when coupled with an 18W charger can deliver up to 50 percent of charge in 30 minutes, thanks to Quick Charge 3.0.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus comes with 64GB of inbuilt storage, expandable via microSD card (up to 400GB). It features a dual rear camera setup with one 16-megapixel sensor and another 5-megapixel monochrome sensor, sporting an f/2.0 aperture and 1-micron pixels. On the front, it comes with a 16-megapixel camera with the same f/2.0 aperture and 1-micron pixel sensor.

Connectivity options on the Nokia 6.1 Plus include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a USB Type-C port. Sensors on board the Nokia 6.1 Plus are accelerometer, ambient light sensor, digital compass, gyroscope, and proximity sensor. In terms of dimensions, the smartphone measures 147.2×70.98×7.99mm (excluding the lens), going up to 8.59mm with the lens, and weighs 151 grams.
