Primal Scream star Martin Duffy left more than £750,000 after lethal fall at Sussex home

Primal Scream star Martin Duffy left an estate of £761,698 when he died following a drunken fall.

Figures from the probate office show that he left a gross estate of £482,894 after settling debts of £250,000.

Duffy, 55, who had been with the rock band for more than 30 years, started drinking even more heavily after being told to get help for his alcohol problems.

After consuming about two bottles of wine on December 15, 2022, he tripped, fell backwards, and suffered multiple fractures to his skull.

His son Louie, who found him at his flat in Hove, called an ambulance but he died in hospital after a life support machine was turned off.

Duffy, who played keyboards with Primal Scream from 1996 after the original keyboards player Rob Collins died, did not leave a will.

His marriage ended in divorce, and so under the laws of intestacy, his estate will go to his son Louie Duffy.

Louie recently made a personal statement, criticising Bobby Gillespie and Andrew Innes of Primal Scream, saying his father aged 10 years in a matter of weeks after being told he had to leave the band to get help.

He had put his flat on the market in a bid to help with his finances, and had not been able to pay his previous tax bill of £8,000, said Louie.

The band paid for his funeral.

Duffy was discovered lying on the kitchen floor of his flat in Hove, East Sussex.

Although Duffy was conscious, he had suffered multiple skull fractures and was losing blood.

After initially declining an ambulance his son called 999 at 04.18am and asked for paramedics to be sent.

When it failed to arrive he called again at 04.48 but due to the high volume of calls an ambulance did not arrive until 7.00am.

He was rushed to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton where he was treated before being transferred to Intensive Care.

However, his brain injuries were ‘unsurvivable’ and on December 18 he was declared brain stem dead and life support turned off.

His inquest in Brighton heard that as well as being alcohol dependent, the musician had been suffering and been treated for prostate cancer.

He was also wrestling with financial problems brought about by the Covid lockdown which had left him unable to tour with the band.
