Sixers Broadcast Celebrates Win Moments Before Meltdown

The Philadelphia 76ers’ broadcast celebrated prematurely on Monday before the Knicks pulled off one of the most unlikely wins in recent playoff history.

With just 47 seconds remaining in the game, the Sixers led Game 2 of their first round playoff series 100-96. Sixers guard Kyle Lowry made one of two free throws to give the team a five-point lead.

Barring a miracle, the Sixers were in complete control and looked to be on the way to a series-tying win.

“I’m reminded of Nick Nurse said in the pre-game presser,” NBC Sports analyst Alaa Abdelnaby said. “Despite what happened in the first game, if they come away with a ‘W’ today, it is a successful road trip. You’ve done what you set out to do. You’d love two [wins], but the goal is to get you home-court advantage by winning one of the two games on the road. Job done. Let’s head down to the turnpike.”

After Lowry missed the second one, Knicks guard Jalen Brunson dribbled the ball to the other side of the court. Following a brief scramble for the ball when Brunson lost control of it, the Knicks maintained possession. Knicks guard Donte DiVincenzo found Brunson in the corner; and after a pump fake, Brunson drained a 3-pointer to trim the lead to two. On the ensuing inbound, the Sixers to pass the ball in and the Knicks stole it away. Josh Hart passed to an open DiVincenzo, who missed a go-ahead 3-pointer.

Isaiah Hartenstein secured the offensive rebound, passing it to OG Anunoby who then passed it to DiVincenzo. The guard made good on the second attempt, giving the Knicks a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
