Subway confirm new branch coming to Deansgate, Bolton

Earlier this month Bolton Council approved plans for new Subway signage on a vacant shop front on Deansgate.

The company has now confirmed that they are indeed planning to open a new restaurant later this year.

A Subway spokesperson said: “We’re excited to confirm there are plans to open a new Subway restaurant on Deansgate, Bolton this autumn.

“More information will be available closer to its opening, and we are looking forward to serving the local community.”

The space has previously been occupied by a Carphone Warehouse but has now been vacant for some time, with the new Subway plan intending to revive the space.

The plan for the Subway signage was put before Tuesday July 11 this year and was approved on Monday August 7 meaning that plans to alter the outside of the building can proceed.

Speaking shortly after the signage was given the go-ahead Cllr Richard Silvester, who represents the Queens Park and Central ward which includes the area around the town centre, said he felt this was a good use of the space.

This was particularly the case given how many people work in the town centre and will be looking for new options when going on lunch breaks.

Cllr Silvester said: “I work in an office not too far away from the premises and I know that fellow office workers would like such a facility around that location, so it will be a welcome addition.”

Subway already has branches at the Crompton Place shopping centre as well as on Newport Street and Derby Street.

The location, right in the town centre with various other businesses and public services nearby, could prove to make it a popular option for people on breaks and finishing work.

It will also cater to increasing numbers of people living in the town centre as more and more housing plans go ahead.

If further plans for a new Subway go ahead it will join other nearby chain outlets including a branch of Greggs, Café Nero and McDonald’s all clustered around Deansgate.
