In the open, Trump has commended Johnson’s leadership and declared his opposition to moves to remove the speaker. According to three Republican sources who spoke to Politico and were aware of the talks, Trump instructed Greene not to go further with her threats to remove Johnson in private.

Zinke said the publication, “I have it under very, very good sources that President Trump did engage.” And maybe someone would conclude, as I hope they do, that ‘You made your point. However, avoid becoming a kamikaze since you will lose if you pursue this. And he mentioned that. I hope that turns out to be the case.
