The message of the song is to not let your aging fool you into giving up on who you are. Williams says, “Say what you say, expect me to fade / I do not think about it, I do not think about it,” in the pre-chorus. “As long as I have these legs, I have work left to do and I am not close to through.”
The refrain of the song, “They say the legs are the last to go (I’mma keep dancing), / I am still putting on a show (I’mma keep dancing), / Till I can not do it no more,” reflects her joyfully rebellious attitude.
Williams does not stop dancing throughout the video, which has her doing some impressive choreography with a large ensemble of support dancers.
Williams uploaded a video of herself entering a practice space while aspiring dancers got ready for their auditions before to the song’s official release. She captioned the photo, saying, “Let me show these children.”
“There are times when kids just need to be educated,” joked video director Mike Ruiz in the comments section.
Williams just knew she wanted to include Carroll’s title somewhere in the song, cowriter Kipper Jones stated in a press statement. “The entire concept was Vanessa’s idea.” Vanessa was unaware of the song’s title, lyrics, or any relevant details. Nothing about it struck me as weird. In the same way, back in 1991, we developed “The Comfort Zone.”
Williams said earlier this month that her next full-length album would be out later in the year.
